Bryan Nolt was a practicing physician when he opened Breckenridge Distillery in Colorado in 2008. His first bourbon shipped in 2011.

It sits at 9,600 feet, the highest whiskey distillery in the world, and Colorado mountain spring water goes in at proofing. What lands in the glass is a high rye bourbon, 56% corn against 38% rye, so pepper and mint sit in front of the caramel. Breckenridge also finishes in port and PX sherry casks. If you drink rye but buy bourbon, start on this shelf.
