Rick and Ricky Johnson, a father and son from Kentucky, launched 15 STARS in 2019. They came out of the popcorn business, Black Jewel, which is where their heirloom corn varietals come from. The name marks Kentucky as the fifteenth state.
Their work is blending age. 15 STARS pairs very old Kentucky barrels with younger, more expressive whiskey. A bottle carries the dried fruit and leather of a fifteen year bourbon while keeping fruit and lift. Start with Private Stock if you want to taste what old-barrel blending does.
