Old Joe

Old Joe whiskey was first made in 1818 by Joseph “Old Joe” Peyton on Gilbert’s Creek in Anderson County, Kentucky. It is one of the oldest whiskey names the state still sells. The Granville Hawkins family bought plant and name, and production carried on under Medley Bond, T.B. Ripy and Wiley Searcy. In 1912 a Hawkins descendant, Gratz B. Hawkins, opened the Old Prentice Distillery on Bond’s Mill Road. The National Register calls it the best example of Spanish Mission architecture in Kentucky.
