Green River
J.W. McCulloch opened Green River in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1885 and registered it as DSP-KY-10, the tenth licensed distillery in the state. It won gold and best of show at the 1900 Paris Exposition. In 1918 a fire took the distillery and 43,000 barrels with it.
The site sat through Prohibition, decline and several owners before the team that restored it returned the original Green River name in 2020, working with McCulloch's great grandson. The flagship Kentucky Straight Bourbon runs a high rye recipe and the wheated expression was named Best Bourbon in the World at the 2025 New York World Spirits Competition. Two mash bills from one of the oldest addresses in Kentucky whiskey.
