This bottle was made for Whiskey Library and carries our own custom Silk Velvet label. It's a seven-year-old single barrel bourbon from 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley, made by the sour mash method: each new fermentation starts with some of the mash from the last one, a traditional Kentucky technique.

It's bottled at barrel proof, 142, which is well above Silk Velvet's standard 107-proof single barrel. You get the whiskey at the strength it came out of the cask, and it's up to you how much water to add, if any. Silk Velvet's single barrels usually bring honey, vanilla, caramel and ripe orchard fruit over #4 charred oak. The name goes back to Henderson, Kentucky in 1880, and the Hargis family revived it with eighth-generation master distiller Jacob Call at Western Kentucky Distilling Co. in Beaver Dam.
