Duane Maas worked as a stillman from the 1950s on. His son Tom built brands including Jack Daniel's, Canadian Club and Jim Beam. Tom's son Nick runs Dancing Goat Distillery in Cambridge, Wisconsin.
The whiskey began as orphaned barrels from MGP's test runs in Indiana. The Maas family held them quietly until the stock could carry a 10 year age statement, then blended it over eighteen months. What that buys is a real age on the label, not an implied one, at 94 proof, where a decade of Andean and American oak reads clearly. It took Double Gold and 98 points at the 2026 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
