Cathead Distillery was founded in 2010 as Mississippi’s first legal distillery and moved into downtown Jackson in 2015. Richard Patrick and Austin Evans were college friends, and the blues runs through everything they bottle. Old Soul is their bourbon.
The Tintype Series sets it apart. One cask strength release a year, fewer than 30 barrels, each named for a blues musician in partnership with the Music Maker Foundation. The 2025 Kenny Brown bottling was 11 years at 103.5 proof, uncut and unfiltered. The year-round High Rye blends Cathead’s own whiskey with Indiana whiskey at 90 proof, and 21% rye gives it a pepper edge the corn cannot flatten.
