Charles Nelson's Green Brier sold close to 380,000 gallons of Tennessee whiskey in 1885, against 23,000 for Jack Daniel's. Statewide prohibition shut the distillery in 1909. His great great great grandsons Andy and Charlie found two original bottles and the recipe in 2006, and relaunched the brand in 2009.
Nelson Bros. bourbon, out since June 2022, is their blending line. Classic is 93.3 proof on a 64% corn, 30% rye mash, married from four to nine year old barrels sourced in Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. The Cask Series takes that same blend into sherry, Cognac, Mourvedre, Madeira and honey casks for three to eighteen months.
