The brand story
Filibuster Distillery
Filibuster started behind the counter of a Washington, DC liquor store in 2013 and moved production to Maurertown, Virginia in 2014. Co-founder Sid Dilawri sold spirits before he made them, and he still blends it. Early stock came from MGP in Indiana; the company later installed its own continuous still.
The second cask is the house move. Dual Cask Straight Bourbon is high rye, aged three to four years in new charred American oak. It then rests 45 to 90 days in French oak, bottled at 90 proof. French oak is tighter grained, so the second cask adds spice, not sweetness. Buy it when sweet bourbon starts tasting the same.
