The Ingram Distillery
Hank Ingram got the idea at business school. Before rail, bourbon barrels travelled downriver to market and arrived changed by the journey. He wondered what modern whiskey had given up by staying still, founded the company in 2015 and released the first bottles in 2020.
Ingram ages its whiskey inside floating barrelhouses built into former grain barges on the Mississippi at Columbus, Kentucky, the only ones of their kind. The barrels never leave the water. Constant motion, river humidity and swings of up to fifty feet in water level over a season keep the spirit working through the wood instead of settling. Uncharted is the wheated expression at 92 proof. Compare it against a warehouse aged bourbon of the same age and the difference is the whole argument.
